‘Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris has been fantastic this season’
Gary Mabbutt says Tottenham's Hugo Lloris has been fantastic this season despite an error-ridden performance on Sunday
Hugo Lloris has been fantastic this season despite the Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper’s error-ridden display in a 6-0 loss to Manchester City, according to Gary Mabbutt.
The France international was at fault for the opening strike as his poor clearance allowed City to counter with Jesus Navas firing an emphatic shot past the Spurs shot stopper.
Lloris also played a part in Alvaro Negredo’s strike as another tame kick up-field was intercepted by Fernandinho, who teed up his Spanish team-mate to notch City’s fifth goal.
However, former Spurs star Mabbutt believes Lloris just suffered an off-colour day after a string of impressive displays in the Premier League season so far.
“Hugo in my opinion is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League and has had a fantastic season so far,” Mabbutt told Sky Sports News.
“The two clearances where not what you would expect from him, normally his ball kicking is excellent.
“If you get a keeper that makes a couple of defensive mistakes you have still got other players to make up for that and cover for you.
“They were glaring bad clearances from him but there was more the team could have done.”
