Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update ahead of Marseille clash
Lukas Podolski is still "a few weeks" away from a return to action with Arsenal, despite his return to first-team training
Lukas Podolski is still “a few weeks” away from a return to action with Arsenal, despite the Germany international’s return to first-team training.
Podolski has been sidelined with a hamstring injury since late August but has been able to participate in training sessions in recent days.
However, Wenger admits that the 28-year-old is still some weeks away from a return to competitive action with the north Londoners.
“It’s not the first time he’s trained but he is still a few weeks away,” said Wenger ahead of Arsenal’s clash with Marseille on Tuesday night.
“It’s great [to see him back] because he is a quality player. He can score goals, he can play in different positions, like centre forward and on the flanks.
“That is vital for us, to get everybody back.”
Wenger also confirmed that the Gunners have no fresh injury concerns ahead of the visit of the Ligue 1 side, with midfielder Mathieu Flamini also available for selection again following his suspension.
Wenger added: “Everybody from Saturday is available and of course Flamini is available as well because he’s back from suspension.”
