West Ham 0 Chelsea 3: Frank Lampard insists the Blues can win Premier League title after beating the Hammers
Frank Lampard believes Chelsea are capable of winning the Premier League title after an emphatic victory at West Ham United.
The 35-year-old midfielder scored the opener against his former club from the penalty spot in the 21st minute after Jussi Jaaskerlainen brought down Oscar.
The Brazil international scored a strike of his own 11 minutes later to help the Blues edge closer to their first victory in three Premier League outings.
And Lampard sealed three points in east London when he scored from close range in the second half to hoist the Blues above Southampton and into third place in the table.
“We’ve certainly got the capabilities [to win the league],” Lampard told Sky Sports.
“The last couple of results showed exactly what we don’t want to be: that inconsistent team from the last two or three years in the league.
“We still need to improve in one or two little areas but if we combine consistency with the quality that we’ve got in our squad, we can make a big challenge.”
Lampard was also thrilled to end a seven-game goal drought and take his tally to three top-flight strikes this season.
“Kind of [worried about goal drought], I’ve had little patches in my career where I’ve gone through that [spells without goals]. At times I’ve missed good opportunities to score.
“If I can produce goals – it might not be as easy to get 20 plus goals – and score important goals for the team.”
