Arsenal

Wojciech Szczęsny For all of Everton’s possession in the first half, he did not have a great deal to do but made decent saves from Pienaar and Barkley and a very good one from Mirallas in the second. 7/10

Carl Jenkinson Used to attacking more than he did in this game as Oviedo got the better of the duel down Arsenal’s right. 6

Per Mertesacker Equal to every single aerial ball that Everton played as he complimented his defensive partner Koscielny perfectly. 7

Laurent Koscielny A really dominant performance as he continually frustrated the usually rampant Lukaku. 7

Kieran Gibbs Volleyed an effort wide and did a good job of ensuring that Mirallas was unable to influence the game too much. 6

Mikel Arteta Really struggled to stem the flow of his former side’s attacks or keep tabs on the evasive Barkley but looked good when Arsenal attacked. 6

Aaron Ramsey Lovely interchange with Giroud fashioned a great chance for himself late in the first half. Involved in most of the Arsenal’s good moves until he was substituted. 7

Jack Wilshere Deployed out wide, he looked a little lost at times and he looked disappointed when taken off as part of Arsenal’s triple change. 5

Mesut Ozil Showed glimpses of his ability with plenty of trickery and flair but his final ball was inconsistent. Had the simple task of putting the ball in from four yards out. 6

Santi Cazorla Unusually quiet performance from the Spaniard, who drifted all over the pitch to try and get involved. His touch was good as ever but left frustrated by Coleman. Substituted. 5

Olivier Giroud Fluffed his lines when Walcott steered the ball across goal but fortunately Ozil was behind him to pounce. Missed a couple of other good chances but brought others into play well. Unlucky to see a superb late shot come back off the bar. 6

Substitutes

Theo Walcott Really good spring at the back post to set up Ozil’s goal. Gave the Gunners an extra dimension. 7

Mathieu Flamini Freed up Arteta to get forward more and Arsenal looked more penetrative when this happened. 6

Tomas Rosicky Good cross that helped create Arsenal’s opener. 7

Everton

Tim Howard At the end of a first half in which he was rarely tested, Howard was alert to quickly close down Giroud and then Ramsey. Scrambled across his goal well to keep out a volley from the Welshman. Booked. 7

Seamus Coleman Positioning was good and made crucial interceptions. Tireless performance as he was equally effective at both ends of the pitch. 7

Phil Jagielka Looked a little slow in tracking Arsenal’s runners as they turned up the pressure towards the first half but improved dramatically after the break. 7

Sylvain Distin Missed a really good opportunity, and two minutes later, his positioning was poor as Ozil punished him. 6

Bryan Oviedo Constantly burst forward to occupy the space left out wide by Pienaar and Jenkinson struggled to deal with him for large periods. Outjumped by Walcott for the goal though. 6

James McCarthy Displayed a good range of passing as Everton kept the ball well. Struggled somewhat in the second half. Put himself out of their next game for a high foot on Ramsey. 6

Gareth Barry Did the dirty work in midfield among all of Everton’s attractive passing. Booked for a late tackle on Ozil. 7

Kevin Mirallas Showed plenty of nice touches but his delivery was somewhat wayward at times. Substitued. 6

Ross Barkley (Man of the match) Ran proceedings in the first half as Everton dominated possession and was the catalyst for his side’s late push that saw them snatch a point. Substituted. 8

Steven Pienaar Influential when characteristically cut inside from the left to join in proceedings. Stung the palms of Szczęsny with a long range effort. Substituted. 6

Romelu Lukaku Physical presence and link up play gave Mertesacker and Koscienly food for thought but never had a clear side of goal. 6

Substitutes

Leon Osman Kept play ticking over nicely without making a huge impression on the game. 6

Gerard Deulofeu Beautifully taken goal. Instant impact will surely secure him a more regular starting berth. 8
