Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger explains Mesut Ozil absence at Newcastle
Mesut Özil has suffered a shoulder injury and is out for "two to three" games, says Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger
Mesut Ozil has been ruled out for “two to three games” with a shoulder injury, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed ahead of his side’s clash at Newcastle.
The 25-year-old playmaker did not travel to St James’ Park for Sunday’s game and Wenger confirmed that the Germany international is set to also miss the home clash with Cardiff City on New Year’s Day.
“I would have loved him [Ozil] here but he has a shoulder problem, after falling on his shoulder,” Wenger told Sky Sports.
“He will be out for two to three games. We have a good squad and now’s the time to show it.”
Ozil has been one of Arsenal standout performers this season since his £42.5m transfer from Real Madrid in the summer.
The midfielder has scored four goals and made seven assists in 15 Premier League appearances for the north London side.
Ozil himself took to Twitter ahead of Arsenal’s game against the Magpies, tweeting: “Lets go gunners. #gunners #afc #Arsenal.”
