Arsene Wenger has warned his Arsenal side to expect a serious examination of their title credentials when the Gunners travel to West Ham United on Boxing Day.

The north Londoners head to Upton Park looking to record their first Premier League victory in four outings after Wenger’s side were held to a goalless draw by Chelsea on Monday.

Arsenal are seeking a victory to keep pace with league leaders Liverpool, but Wenger has warned his side that Sam Allardyce’s team have already proved themselves as threats to top opposition this season.

“It’s a local derby on Boxing Day and we know that West Ham have made surprising results,” said Wenger.

“They have won twice at Tottenham this season now and can be a tough opponent.

“I think everybody takes West Ham seriously and expects great resistance from them. Last year we did well against them – we have to be inspired by that, go there and play our game again. But they have good players, always a good crowd and it’s a derby so they are always up for it.

“We have given a lot against Chelsea so we need to make sure that we are completely focused on this game.”
