Arsenal have had a £6.5m bid for Alexandre Pato turned down by Corinthians, according to reports in Brazil.

The Gunners have been linked with a January move for a striker following the north Londoners’ reliance on Olivier Giroud up front, and Pato has emerged as a potential target for Arsene Wenger.

Now, Brazilian portal Lancenet has claimed that Arsenal have been rebuffed in their attempts to sign the former AC Milan forward.

Pato, who is reported to have attracted interest form Arsenal’s north London rivals Tottenham over the summer, returned to his native Brazil last January in a £10.4m deal.

The 24-year-old has scored nine goals in 29 Brazilian Serie A appearances for Corinthians so far this season.

The report comes after Corinthians director Roberto de Andrade admitted that the Brazilian club are open to selling Pato in January.

“If those two clubs [Arsenal and Tottenham] are interested in Pato, we don’t rule out selling him in the winter transfer market,” said De Andrade.
