Arsene Wenger insists he is not yet thinking about strengthening his Arsenal squad in the January transfer window.

The Gunners are currently five points clear at the top of the Premier League table heading into Saturday’s clash at Manchester City.

Arsenal have been linked with a number of players as the north Londoners look to maintain their title challenge, including AC Milan forward Stephan El Shaarawy.

But the Frenchman says he is purely focused on a busy festive schedule before the transfer window opens next month.

“We will assess that situation in January,” said Wenger. “At the moment we are like every club, focused on the short term and for us what is vital is Saturday’s game.

“On the transfer market, usually January is more talks that concrete signings.”

Asked if January is a difficult time to strengthen, Wenger replied: “If you look well at the clubs who struggled not to go down, even those who bought a lot you realise it does not help a lot.”
