Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers plays down the inexperience of his Reds squad in the Premier League title race
Brendan Rodgers doesn’t believe the inexperience of his Liverpool squad will play a decisive role in the title race.
Reds centre-half Kolo Toure, who moved to Anfield on a free transfer from the Citizens in the summer, is the only member of the Northern Irishman’s squad to have previously won the English top-flight crown.
You need to get that experience from somewhere and you only do that by going on and winning games
Liverpool are currently top of the Premier League table ahead of their clash against Manchester City on Boxing Day, and Rodgers insists his squad will only gain experience by regularly competing for titles.
“Of course there are teams who will have much more experience than ourselves at winning titles but you only get that experience by doing it and focusing on the job,” Rodgers said.
“If we can continue with that over the course of the next 10 games we will assess it for the final run in. You need to get that experience from somewhere and you only do that by going on and winning games.
“Since January we have shown we can consistently perform and win games on a regular basis and we have shown we are a very attack-minded team – we have the most goals of a Premier League team in this calendar year.”
