Chelsea transfers: Jose Mourinho rules out buying a striker in January despite his current forwards struggling to find the net
Jose Mourinho insists he isn’t looking to sign new players in January despite his current Chelsea strikers struggling to find form.
The Blues spurned a series of chances at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday as Stoke City came from behind to seal a 3-2 victory over Chelsea.
I am not waiting for players, I am not asking for [new] players
Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres have scored a combined four Premier League goals this season, in comparison to Romelu Lukaku’s eight strikes since moving to Everton on loan.
But Mourinho, who sealed a return to Stamford Bridge in June, is focused on improving his current squad instead of spending next month.
“I try to improve the players, I try to improve the team and the style of the team,” Mourinho said.
“Of course we want the best possible results, but I am not waiting for players, I am not asking for [new] players.”
He added: “This is a period for the club and this is a period of my team where we have to try to improve the players we have and try to build a future.
“Are players are coming now or at the end of the season? Probably at the end of the season because it is more normal, but no, I am not pushing for players now.”
