Christine Ohuruogu admitted she is targeting a third Olympics after she was named Sunday Times and Sky Sports Sportswoman of the Year.

Ohuruogu, who won the world 400m title in thrilling fashion earlier this year, edged out double world cycling champion Becky James, world triathlon champion Non Stanford, world skeleton gold medallist Shelley Rudman, cricketer Heather Knight and double Olympic champion dressage rider Charlotte Dujardin for the honour.

“I think we’ll go to Rio, that’s the plan,” she said.

“Obviously, I have to stay injury free. I love what I do. Me and my coach have a great time training and 400m right now is a great event to be in and we have great talent coming through.

“I’m so proud to win this award, it’s such a tough category. It’s great we have women who are excelling. I am genuinely shocked but I’m really happy.”

Ohuruogu won Olympic gold in Beijing and claimed 400m silver at last year’s London 2012 Games.

Meanwhile, the Helen Rollason Award for Inspiration went to former British rower Sarah Winckless, who won a bronze medal in the double sculls at the 2004 Athens Olympics and serves as the British Olympic Association’s athletes’ committee chair.

Winckless has been a tireless campaigner for Huntington’s Disease charities after being told in 1997 she will develop the condition at some point and there is no known way of preventing its onset.
