Moyes gives latest Man United injury update ahead of Tottenham clash
Robin van Persie returns to light training but is unlikely to be fit for Manchester United's clash with Tottenham
Robin van Persie has returned to light training but is unlikely to be fit for Manchester United’s clash with Tottenham on New Year’s Day.
The Netherlands international has been out of action since injuring his groin in the 1-0 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on 10 December.
Moyes revealed that the 30-year-old, who has netted seven league goals so far this term, has begun some training as he works his way back to full fitness.
We’re looking forward to getting Van Persie and Rooney back together
“Robin’s started some light training and he might not be too far away,” Moyes said.
“We’ve not had [Van Persie and Wayne Rooney] as a partnership very often and we’re looking forward to getting them back together.”
Moyes also confirmed that Rooney is likely to be fit to face Tottenham after the striker sat out Saturday’s 1-0 win over Norwich City with a groin strain.
“I would expect Rooney to be back for Wednesday, hopefully,” added the Scot. “But he’s got an adductor injury in his groin, which kept him out of the Stoke game [in the League Cup].
“Ideally we’d like to give it a bit longer than three or four days between each game, but we’re not getting much time at this point of the season.”
