Fulham 1 Tottenham 2: Andre Villas-Boas reflects on an "extremely important" victory after Spurs come from behind to win
Andre Villas-Boas reflected on an “extremely important” victory after watching his Tottenham side come from behind to beat Fulham.
After a goalless first half at Craven Cottage, Ashkan Dejagah’s driven shot gave the home side the lead in the 56th minute.
But Spurs fought back as Vlad Chiriches and Lewis Holtby scored in a nine-minute spell to seal a win which hoisted the north Londoners up to sixth place in the table and three points behind the Champions League places.
It’s another away win which is extremely important for the confidence and positiveness of the team
“To keep in touch with people at the top was important, especially after some surprising results this evening,” said Villas-Boas.
“It was important for us to be in there among the top teams to take our challenge through. December and January are very important months in the Premier League.”
“We’ve been waiting a long time for this win. It was important to conclude the job following the draw against Manchester United.
“It gives us that winning feeling finally. It puts us back on track and we’ve jumped a couple of positions in the table.
“It’s another away win which is extremely important for the confidence and positiveness of the team.”
Meanwhile, newly-appointed Cottagers boss Rene Meulensteen was satisfied with his side’s overall display, despite suffering defeat in his first game since succeeding Martin Jol.
“I thought we were good and well organised,” said Meulensteen. “I said to the players before the game I want an inspired performance, that is how we win the fans back and we did that.”
