Fulham

Maarten Stekelenburg Had very little to do but looked untroubled when called upon. 6/10

Sascha Riether Good battle with Agbonlahor, whose pace he sometimes found hard to handle. 6

John Arne Riise Full of running down the left and went close with two powerfully-struck shots and a header against the post. Linked well with Kacaniklic. Gave the ball away at times. 7

Philippe Senderos Rarely gave Benteke space to move and made some important clearances. 7

Aaron Hughes Challenged well in the air and did well to block shots and intercept passes to break up Villa’s attacks. 7

Scott Parker First to every loose ball and never gave his opponents space. Kept his passes simple. 7

Giorgos Karagounis Played good long and short passes throughout and never backed out of a challenge, despite getting hurt a few times. 7

Ashkan Dejagah Ran well and linked intelligently with his team-mates. 7

Steve Sidwell Determined display characterised by scooped finish at full stretch for opening goal. 7

Alexander Kacaniklic Dribbled and crossed well and threatened throughout. Did well to earn the penalty. 8

Dimitar Berbatov (Man of the match) Back to his inventive best. Coolly-taken penalty. Unlucky to see good header tipped away early on by Guzan. 8

Substitutes

Pajtim Kasami Eager to create chances but clumsy in possession. 6

Damien Duff Came on to provide fresh legs and he did just that in a bright and busy cameo. 6

Aston Villa

Brad Guzan Did well to prevent Fulham from scoring more. Excellent early save to deny Berbatov. 7

Leandro Bacuna Clumsy challenge to give away penalty and was troubled throughout by Kacaniklic. 6

Chris Herd Worked hard but failed to stop Fulham’s forwards creating plenty of chances. Poor challenge on Karagounis. 6

Nathan Baker Villa’s best defender on the day. Great clearance off the line in the first half and tackled and headed well. 7

Ciaran Clark Very mixed performance. Tackled and blocked well at times, but was beaten too many times and never looked secure in possession. 5

Karim El Ahmadi Tried hard but struggled to create opportunities. Substituted at half-time. 5

Fabian Delph The heartbeat of Villa’s midfield. Worked hard all game. Poor challenge earned booking. 6

Ashley Westwood Passed well but struggled to assert himself on the game. 5

Andreas Weimann Very few touches in the final third. Kept coming deep as a result. Never made an impact. 5

Gabriel Agbonlahor Caused Riether some problems and created Villa’s best chances. 6

Christian Benteke Missed two good early chances and initially looked brighter than in recent weeks. Faded badly in the second half. Did not get much service. 5
