Scott Parker praised Fulham’s match-winner Dimitar Berbatov after the Cottagers edged to victory over Aston Villa.

The Bulgarian created Steve Sidwell’s first-half opener at Craven Cottage as the midfielder netted his third Premier League goal of the season.

And the Cottagers, who sacked Martin Jol last weekend, secured three points thanks to Berbatov’s cool second-half penalty.

Veteran midfielder Parker admitted Fulham were in desperate need of three points after a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur mid-week.

“After the results yesterday, we needed to pick up points,” Parker told BBC Sport.

“We put in a good performance on Wednesday and it was good to follow up with a win today. Dimitar Berbatov was very good. We know the quality he has.”
