Hull City 6 Fulham 0: Bruce hails ‘outstanding’ Huddlestone
Hull City 6 Fulham 0: Steve Bruce heaps praise on Tom Huddlestone after Tigers thrash the Cottagers
Steve Bruce heaped praise on Tom Huddlestone after watching his Hull City side hit six second-half goals past sorry Fulham to record their best-ever Premier League win.
Ahmed Elmohamady opened the scoring in the 49th minute before Robert Koren turned home Yannick Sagbo’s cross and George Boyd added a third.
I’m shocked. I don’t know if there was something in the tea. Today was just not good enough
Huddlestone then smashed in his first goal since April 2011, Matty Fryatt tapped in a fifth and Koren added his second and Hull’s sixth from close range.
“Tom Huddlestone has been waiting for that goal I’ve seen some great individual performances but I’ve never witnessed something as outstanding as what he produced today,” Bruce, whose side are 10th after the win, told BBC Sport.
“Everyone else fed off that and joined in. Once we scored it gave everyone belief and the floodgates opened and it will live long in the memory.”
Meanwhile, Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen apologised to the Cottagers’ travelling fans after the humiliating defeat.
“An apology for the travelling fans is right in this place,” Meulensteen told BBC Sport.
“I’m shocked. I don’t know if there was something in the tea. Today was just not good enough.
“I did not see that coming and the players did not see that coming.
“We didn’t play particularly well in the first half but were still in the game. The spell from 60 minutes onwards they scored three quick goals and it was game over. We couldn’t come back from it.”
