Mohamed Salah is on the verge of sealing a deal to join Liverpool in the January transfer window, according to his former team-mate.

The Basel winger has long been linked with a switch to the Premier League, Chelsea and Manchester United also touted as possible destinations for the Egypt international.

Now, Salah’s close friend and former team-mate has claimed that the 21-year-old is set to seal a mid-season switch to Anfield.

“Yes, I am 99 per cent sure this will happen,” said Mohamed Zika when asked about Salah joining Liverpool.

“He makes us and all of Egypt proud. Everybody talks about Mohamed Salah now – and aside from that he’s my friend. I’m very happy for him.”

Speaking last month after netting against Chelsea in the Champions League, Salah admitted that he would be keen on a move to Real Madrid, the Blues or United.

“I’m very proud to have scored two goals against Chelsea,” Salah said. “I want to play for one of the best teams in the world.

“My favourites are Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea.”

Salah has scored 17 goals in 27 Egypt appearances since making his debut in a 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone.
