Daniel Sturridge has admitted he is “gutted” to be sidelined for up to eight weeks due to an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old striker missed the 3-1 loss to Hull City at the KC Stadium after twisting his ankle during training at Melwood on Friday.

The Reds forward, who was already contending with a reoccurring thigh injury, is expected to miss between six and eight weeks.

“Keeping the faith,” Sturridge tweeted.

“I’m pushing myself to be better than before the injury. God willing a quick recovery and I’ll be back playing soon!

“I’m gutted right now man, keeping it real. Thanks for all the kind words. To all my fans thanks for the support. Means a lot to me.”

Sturridge has scored nine goals in 12 Premier League games this season, taking his Reds tally to 19 top-flight strikes since moving in a £12m deal from Chelsea.
