Liverpool’s Jon Flanagan inspired by Steven Gerrard praise
Liverpool defender Jon Flanagan admits he has been inspired by recent praise from Reds captain Steven Gerrard
Jon Flanagan reveals he has been inspired by recent praise from Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard.
The Reds defender, who has come through Liverpool’s famed Melwood academy, has impressed since being asked to fill-in for injured first-choice left-back Jose Enrique.
Steven Gerrard has been my hero growing up, so for him to say those nice words is great for me
It prompted 33-year-old Gerrard to highlight Flanagan as the club’s “star man” in a 3-3 draw with Everton at Goodison Park in the Merseyside derby last month.
And Flanagan is happy with his performances in the Toffees stalemate and victories over Norwich City and West Ham United.
“It’s always great for someone like Steven to say that about you,” Gerrard told Liverpool’s website.
“He has been my hero growing up, so for him to say those nice words is great for me. In the changing room afterwards, all the lads and the manager said
“It’s always good when your teammates recognise what you have done on the day. It does give you confidence going into the next game.
“I think I’ve done okay in the games that I’ve played in. I got back in the team at Arsenal, I thought I did okay. I thought Everton was my best performance. From there, I’ve just got to keep performing now.”
