Simon Mignolet believes it’s too early for Liverpool to start thinking about a potential Premier League title challenge.

The Reds leapfrogged Chelsea and Manchester City and moved into second place courtesy of a 4-1 victory over West Ham United at Anfield on Saturday.

And Mignolet, who moved to Liverpool in a £9m deal from Sunderland in the summer, wants the Reds to continue their home form over the festive period.

“Against teams like today, it’s very important to win. If we can win the points, afterwards we can look at the opposition – we have reached second again in the table.

“You see big teams dropping points against mid-table teams. We have to make sure we look at ourselves and get the three points every week, especially at home.

“Then we can stay where we are at the top of the table. If we do the things we need to, we can look at what the rest are doing.

“It’s far too early to look at the opposition in the league [title race]. There are still a lot of games to be played. We just have to do the things we need to do.”
