‘Suarez can become Liverpool great like Dalglish and Gerrard’
John Aldridge believes Luis Suárez can become a Liverpool great like Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard
John Aldridge believes Luis Suarez can become a Liverpool great if the Uruguayan remains at Anfield for another five years.
The 26-year-old scored his 16th and 17th goals in 10 Premier League appearances in a 5-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.
If he was to stay at the club for another five or six years he would be right up there alongside Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish
Suarez was the subject of a bid from Arsenal during the summer, whilst Real Madrid have been linked with a move for the controversial South American.
However, Aldridge reckons Suarez can join Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard as Liverpool greats if he remains at the club beyond next summer.
“The decision to make Luis Suarez captain was controversial but it certainly worked.
I understand why some would question whether he should wear the armband after what happened last summer,” Aldridge wrote in his Liverpool Echo column.
“However, you have to say that since he’s come back from the ban his attitude has been spot on.
“He responded with another amazing performance. He was different class and my man of the match.
“He scored twice and could have had even more. We don’t know what the future holds for Suarez. We’re fortunate to have someone of his calibre.
“If he was to stay at the club for another five or six years he would be right up there alongside Steven Gerrard and Kenny Dalglish as the greatest in our history.”
