Lucas Leiva has hailed Luis Suarez as the best player in the Premier League after the striker helped Liverpool beat Cardiff and move top of the table.

The 26-year-old added another two goals to his top-flight tally as the Reds sealed a 3-1 win at Anfield and leapfrogged Arsenal into first place.

Wopefully he will maintain this form for a long time for the club

Saturday’s brace took the Uruguay international’s tally to 19 goals in just 12 appearances since returning from his ban for biting Branislav Ivanovic last season.

And Brazil midfielder Lucas is certain that Suarez, who signed a new four-and-a-half year deal with the Reds last week, is the top player in England on current form.

“With what he is doing this season and what he has done for the past few seasons, he deserves that,” Lucas told Liverpool’s website.

“We can see that he is really comfortable playing here, and his family. It’s a positive message; the manager and owners have always said that they want to keep our best players.

“At the moment he is probably not just our best player, but the best player in the league. We are glad to have him here, hopefully he will maintain this form for a long time for the club.”
