Mourinho gives latest Chelsea injury update ahead of Sunderland trip
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho confirms David Luiz and Oscar are not fit to face Sunderland on Wednesday night
Jose Mourinho has confirmed that Brazilian duo David Luiz and Oscar will miss Chelsea’s clash with Sunderland on Wednesday due to injury.
The former Benfica centre-half has been forced to sit out the west London side’s last two games against Basel and Southampton due to a knee injury.
And the Chelsea manager said that Luiz won’t feature at the Stadium of Light, but could be in contention to face Stoke City at the weekend.
“David Luiz is not training with the team,” Mourinho told a pre-match media conference.
Samuel Eto’o has been training with the team since yesterday and he looks fine
“He is still with the medical department. I don’t know [how much long he will be out], let’s see for the weekend.
“We are playing for quite a long time with John Terry and Gary Cahill.
“I hope sooner or later that I have David so I can rotate a little bit like I can do in other positions.”
Mourinho also revealed that Oscar, who has scored six Premier League goals this season, will also miss out against Guy Poyet’s men due to an ankle injury.
“Oscar is not in condition for this match,” he added.
However, the Blues boss did confirm that striker Samuel Eto’o is in contention to start the midweek clash.
Mourinho said: “Eto’o has been training with the team since yesterday. He looks fine.”
