Moyes gives latest Man United injury update ahead of Aston Villa trip
Robin van Persie is ruled out for a month with a thigh injury, Manchester United manager David Moyes confirms
Robin van Persie has been ruled out for a month with a thigh injury, Manchester United manager David Moyes has confirmed.
The 30-year-old striker, who has started 10 Premier League games so far this season, was a second-half substitute as United ran out 1-0 winners over Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League on Tuesday night.
I am sure we have plenty of players who can cover it so we don’t miss them too much
And Moyes said that the forward picked up the problem when taking the corner which led to Phil Jones’ winner at Old Trafford during a news conference on Friday.
“Robin Van Persie is out as well for a month,” said Moyes. “He picked up a thigh strain in taking a corner kick which led to the goal.
“It’s unfortunate because I think if you look at our record with Wayne Rooney and Robin in the team, it is actually very good and we have not had them for quite a period recently.”
Van Persie has scored seven goals in 11 Premier League games this season. United play eight matches before facing Chelsea in the league on 19 January.
The striker joins Marouane Fellaini (back), Michael Carrick (Achilles), Nemanja Vidic (knock), Patrice Evra (knock) and Chris Smalling (hamstring) on the sidelines ahead of Sunday’s trip to Aston Villa.
And Moyes added: “I am sure we have plenty of players who can cover it so we don’t miss them too much.”
