Barbosa Rafael Cabral Was untested in the first half apart from a routine save from Giroud. Had little else to do. 6/10

Cristian Maggio Was a constant presence down the right wing. The Napoli captain spurned a decent chance to put his side ahead when he found himself through on goal but his chipped effort sailed over the bar. 6

Federico Fernandez Played a number of teasing balls forward from defence, causing Arsenal some problems while marshalling his side’s rearguard. 6

Raul Albiol Decent display in the centre of the home side’s defence and did well when venturing forward for set-pieces. 5

Pablo Armero Was a constant threat down the left wing and also coped with the threat posed by Jenkinson and Rosicky down the right of Arsenal’s midfield. Hit a shot straight at Szczesny early in the second half. 7

Blerim Dzemaili Nothing spectacular from the Switzerland international. Was yellow-carded in the first half for a robust challenge on Koscielny in midfield. 4

Valon Behrami Was combative in central midfield and put in a number of crunching challenges but didn’t offer anything going forward. 5

Jose Maria Callejon Was quiet in the first half until he fired a speculative effort just over the bar from the edge of the box. Scored a late consolation with a neat lob over Szczesny with the last kick of the game. 5

Goran Pandev A quiet display from the Macedonia international. Duly substituted early in the second half. 5

Dries Mertens Wasted a free-kick in a promising position in the first half and picked up a booking for a high tackle on Rosicky. 4

Gonzalo Higuaín (man of the match) Was unlucky to be ruled offside when clean through on goal in just the second minute as replays showed him to be level. Fired his side into the lead with a well-taken low shot from just inside the box after turning Mertesacker. 8

Lorenzo Insigne Didn’t do much after coming on before setting up Callejon for Napoli’s second in impressive fashion. 6

Wojciech Szczesny Had little to do first half until he was almost left red-faced when his attempted clearance hit Higuaín’s head and bounced just wide. Couldn’t really have done much to prevent Higuaín’s opener, before being lobbed by Callejon late on. 5

Carl Jenkinson A decent night overall for the right-back, who continues to fill in for the injured Bacary Sagna. Did a sturdy job in defence and his forays forward were commendable. 6

Per Mertesacker A solid display from the German centre-half, whose pairing with Koscielny continues to impress in the heart of the Gunners’ defence. However, he was turned too easily by Higuaín for Napoli’s opener. 6

Laurent Koscielny A typically sharp performance by the France international. Denied Pandev with crucial tackles at important moments. 6

Kieran Gibbs Not the most inspiring display from the left-back, who was accused of being too flat-footed for Gerard Deulofeu’s equaliser for Everton on Sunday. Looked shaky for most of the second half and did not inspire much confidence. 4

Mathieu Flamini A top display, even if he faded a little in the second half. Did the dirty work very well and was committed as usual. Was constantly gesticulating as he attempted to organise the midfield, while also making regular runs forward. 7

Mikel Arteta Authoritative and combative in the Arsenal midfield, until the captain was sent off in the 75th minute. He was first booked for a dangerous lunge on Behrami midway through the second half, before being given his marching orders for a silly foul on Callejon. Should have the experience not to make such mistakes. 5

Tomas Rosicky Decent performance by the Czech Republic international without producing anything exceptional. Replaced by Nacho Monreal with 16 minutes to go. 6

Mesut Ozil Not quite up to his usual standards but still showed flashes of brilliance throughout and was involved in all of Arsenal’s meaningful attacks. 7

Santi Cazorla Struggled to find his feet in the opening exchanges but gradually began to help Arsenal’s midfield purr into life. Replaced by Ramsey with 20 minutes to play. 6

Olivier Giroud Won almost everything in the air all night but failed to test Cabral, apart from forcing a routine save from goalkeeper midway through the first half. 6

Aaron Ramsey Deployed on the right, didn’t really make an impact. N/A

Nacho Monreal Did little after coming on. N/A
