Patrice Evra has praised Manchester United’s reaction following back-to-back losses to Everton and Newcastle United earlier this month.

The Red Devils extended their three-game winning run with a timely 2-0 victory over Stoke City on Wednesday night to set up a Capital One Cup semi-final clash against Sunderland.

And United defender Evra wants the defending Premier League champions to go on an unbeaten run to help the Red Devils cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the table.

“We need points – I wouldn’t lie and say anything else,” Evra said ahead of United’s clash against West Ham United on Saturday.

“When we lost against Everton and Newcastle it was a massive blow. But we have reacted well with three wins in a row.

“Now we have to make sure we win on Saturday. We have to give everything we have got on the pitch. We have to respect the shirt. I think everything is going to be OK.

“I don’t want to think about the past. The past is gone. I don’t want to think about the future because I might get worried. I want to think about the present. The present is about winning games.”

He added: “I want to get another unbeaten run going, but this time we do not want to slip back again.

“It is too painful for us, for the staff, for the fans. We have to make sure we keep winning games.

“I am not looking at the table. I look at the next game, which is West Ham at home. We’ve had more trouble at Old Trafford this season, so that is where we have to show our character and our personality.”
