Rodgers give latest Liverpool injury update ahead of Spurs clash
Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers gives an injury update ahead of their trip to Tottenham
Brendan Rodgers reveals Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard could be sidelined for up to four weeks due to a hamstring injury.
The 33-year-old Reds captain was replaced in 56th minute by Brazil international Lucas Leiva in the club’s 4-1 victory over West Ham United at Anfield last Saturday.
Rodgers hopes Gerrard, who has scored three goals and made six assists in the Premier League this season, will be back sooner than expected ahead of a tough festive fixture schedule.
“Steven is, as reported, probably going to be up to about four weeks or so,” Rodgers said ahead of Liverpool’s trip to Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
“So he’ll go through an extensive treatment programme over the next numbers of weeks and hopefully we can get him back that little bit sooner.
“But certainly at this stage, it was a four to six-week injury and we’ll see how we look with that.”
Rodgers confirmed Jordan Henderson should be fit to face Tottenham on Saturday after recovering from Kevin Nolan’s tackle in the latter stages of the Hammers rout.
“Jordan trained so he’s fine,” said Rodgers. “It was just precautionary the last few days.
“It was a bad challenge that was made on him, but thankfully he’s okay. But we’ll see how he is tomorrow as well.”
