One goal enough as Celtic edge past Inverness

Celtic finished the first half of the season with their unbeaten league record intact after a 1-0 victory over Inverness. When Kris Commons scored in the third minute, it looked as if Celtic would be on their way to a comfortable victory, but Inverness kept the game tight throughout and could have come away with a point on another day. Fraser Forster had to make a number of good saves throughout the match and Celtic can be thankful to him for the three points. The result means that Inverness manager, John Hughes, is still without a home win since joining the club.

St Johnstone breeze past Dundee United

St Johnstone beat Dunduee United 3-0 in their last game of 2013 thanks to an impressive hat-trick from the in-form Stevie May. The result never really looked in doubt after May was brought down by Callum Butcher in the box, resulting in a penalty, scored by May, for St Johnstone and a red card for the United player. May then went on to score two second-half goals as Dundee United lost their second game in a row by a three-goal margin.

Home win for Hibs as Butcher works his magic

Hibs made it two wins on the bounce by beating a poor Kilmarnock 3-0 in what was their first home win since September. Terry Butcher’s men took the lead in the 12th minute thanks to a header from Paul Hanlon before Paul Cairney made it 2-0 midway through the second half. The points were secured when Lewis Stevenson got a well-earned goal. The impressive performances over the festive period have delighted fans who are pleased with Butcher’s impact.

Dominant Well thrash Partick Thistle

Motherwell held onto second spot in the Scottish Premiership table with an emphatic 5-1 win away to Partick Thistle. However it was Thistle who took the lead in the 8th minute through Steven Lawless before the floodgates opened. Goals from Keith Lasley, Zaine Francis-Angol, James McFadden and Lionel Ainsworth and John Sutton ensured a comfortable victory for Stuart McCall’s side.
