Roberto Soldado has admitted he is desperate to start scoring more goals after a slow start to his Tottenham Hotspur career.

The Spain international has netted four goals and made two assists in 13 Premier League appearances after a £26m switch to White Hart Lane from Valencia in August.

However, Soldado has only netted once from open play and has drawn a blank in his last five outings, but the 28-year-old feels that he is about to turn a corner at Spurs.

“No. Definitely not. Much less. A lot of my goals have come from the penalty spot,” said Soldado.

“I want to score more goals than I am doing at the moment. That is why they signed me. I have been doing it all my career. I haven’t done so far here, but I am convinced I will get there.

“We are trying to score, we create chances but we are not taking them. We need to keep going, working hard and the goals will come.

“I am doing all I can [to get back in the Spain team] but goals are what the coach is looking for in a forward.”
