Manuel Pellegrini felt Manchester City were guilty of complacency in the second half after West Bromwich Albion almost salvaged a point in the delayed kick-off at the Hawthorns.

Argentina international Sergio Aguero netted his 11th Premier League goal of the season to give City a ninth-minute lead before Yaya Toure added a second midway through the first half.

Citizens midfielder Toure added a third from the spot after half-time before a late Costel Pantilimon own goal and Victor Anichebe’s stoppage-time strike ensured a nervy finish for the visitors.

“I think we played really well in the first half and had three or four more clear chances,” Pellegrini told BBC Sport.

“The second half we controlled the game and made it 3-0. In the last few minutes, maybe all of us, including me, were thinking of the next match on Saturday. That is when they scored their two goals.”
