Sam Allardyce looked for the positives after his West Ham United side were held to a goalless draw by bottom-of-the-table Sunderland at Upton Park.

Sunderland missed an early chance when Jozy Altidore had his shot saved by goalkeeper Jussi Jaaskelainen, while Modibo Maiga had two opportunities for the home side but lifted both of his efforts over the bar.

The draw keeps the Hammers in 17th place in the Premier League, while Sunderland stay rooted to the foot of the table.

And West Ham manager Allardyce was pleased with another clean sheet but admitted his side need to improve in front of goal.

“We have got eight clean sheets so far this season. That is a brilliant return as we only got 11 last season,” said Allardyce.

“We all know that the goal factor is the problem for us and we would be higher up the league if we could score more.

“Creative players were on the field against Sunderland but they didn’t play at their creative best.”
