Mesut Ozil has definitely made the most of some rare days off if the Arsenal star’s latest Facebook post is any guide.

The 25-year-old playmaker shared a picture of himself surrounded by what appear to be macaques, ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Aston Villa on Monday night.

Ozil, who has more than 15 million followers on the social network, wrote: “Dear friends, after the victory against the #spurs, I used the days off to regain power for the upcoming matches. what about you? how did you spend the start of 2014? M1Ö”

The playmaker is set to return to Arsenal’s starting line-up for the trip to Villa Park on Monday, where Arsenal are seeking a victory to maintain their place at the top of the Premier League table.

The Germany international, who was a second-half substitute in last weekend’s 2-0 FA Cup win over local rivals Tottenham after recovering from a minor shoulder injury, has made 15 Premier League starts for Arsenal this season since his club-record signing from Real Madrid.

He has scored four goals and notched up seven assists in the English top flight so far this term.

Meanwhile, the ex-Real Madrid star was crowned the German Player of the Year for the third season in a row on Thursday after beating off competition from Bayern Munich duo Philipp Lahm and Thomas Muller to land the accolade.

“The 2013 was a very turbulent time for me with my move from Madrid to London,” Ozil told the German FA’s website.

“The [award] makes me proud and happy, because above all, it was carried out by the fans.

“The award for me, is an obligation to have a successful 2014 World Cup. I still play every international game as though it is my first.”
