Clement Grenier has rubbished reports suggesting that he wants to swap Lyon for Arsenal in the January transfer window.

The Gunners were thought to be weighing up a renewed bid to sign the 22-year-old this month after missing out on the attacking midfielder during the summer.

A departure is not in my head for this transfer window and I have not asked to leave

Grenier has scored three goals and made four assists in 17 Ligue 1 appearances this season, sparking interest from a host of European clubs.

But the France international is adamant that he hasn’t asked to leave the seven-time Ligue 1 champions – whilst also explaining recent quotes attributed to the Lyon man.

“I just responded to a fan who asked me if I would stay in Lyon for my career,” Grenier told Le Parisien.

“I just said, ‘In football, everything goes very fast – if I say yes and I go this winter, you’ll take me for a fool’.

“This response has been misinterpreted. A departure is not in my head for this transfer window and I have not asked to leave.”
