Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool adore Luis Suarez’s “talent” and “desire to be successful”.

The Reds striker, who turns 27 later this month, was named the Premier League’s player of the month for December after scoring 10 goals and making five assists in seven games.

Well very deserving and congratulations to him – he’s been outstanding

In what was a productive month for both club and player, Suarez penned a new long-term contract with the Reds to dissuade any potential suitors from making a bid in January.

And Rodgers believes Suarez, who has scored 20 goals and made five assists this term, has matured in the current campaign as he continues to thrive in the best league in Europe.

Asked about Suarez’s latest accolade, Rodgers replied: “Well very deserving and congratulations to him – he’s been outstanding.”

“I just think he’s maturing. He’s 27 later this month,” the Liverpool boss continued at his media conference ahead of Sunday’s Stoke City clash.

“He wants to be here. This is the best league in Europe and he wanted to commit his future here. It is part of his growing process as a person and player.”

When questioned whether the new deal was to secure Suarez’s future or reward the striker for his performances, Rodgers added: “I think it was both. It was for us as we adore his talent person and desire to be successful and I think us as a club to have a world-class striker on your books is important.”
