Paul Parker has urged Manchester United to put Luke Shaw at the top of their January shopping list – ahead of Leighton Baines.

The Red Devils have long been linked with a swoop for Everton defender Baines after David Moyes failed to lure him to Old Trafford over the summer.

If you’re looking for a bit of return on your investment then Luke Shaw is the one you want to get

Southampton starlet Shaw, 18, is another name to have been touted as a potential target for United this month.

And former United defender Parker feels that Shaw, who has also been linked with Chelsea in recent weeks, would be the better option if Moyes opts to strengthen his left-back options.

“If you’re going to spend money and you’re looking for a bit of return on your investment then Luke Shaw is the one you want to get,” Parker told talkSPORT.

“As a good as Leighton Baines is, his price will be very high and where is your return? That’s the worrying point.

“Shaw has done very well so far this season and he’s a young player they can build into future teams.

“He’s a longer term prospect who is the better buy out of the two for me. Everyone is talking about him because he’s a very good prospect.”
