Gianluigi Buffon has expressed his disbelief that Manchester United allowed Paul Pogba to leave the club on a free transfer in 2012.

The France international has made an instant impact since moving to the Turin side, scoring 11 goals in 60 appearances in all competitions.

We immediately thought if they saw well at Manchester or not because he is truly impressive

Pogba left United after the defending Premier League champions refused to match his reported £30,000-a-week wage demands, as well as failing to guarantee the 20-year-old regular first-team football.

However, in a twist of fate, Sir Alex Ferguson’s successor David Moyes is reported to be a keen admirer of the France international, and travelled to Italy to watch Juventus’ 4-1 victory over Cagliari last weekend.

And Juve goalkeeper Buffon, who won the World Cup with Italy in 2006, talked up Pogba’s talent amid the continued speculation.

“Pogba is one of those players that leaves you with your mouth open,” Buffon said to Italian TV show Tiki Taka. “After three or four training sessions, we understood his quality.

“We immediately thought if they saw well at Manchester or not because he is truly impressive.”
