Six Nations 2014: Wales comfortable as favourites, insists Sam Warburton
Six Nations 2014: Wales captain Sam Warburton insists the Red Dragon are comfortable with their favourites tag
Sam Warburton insists Wales welcome their favourites tag for this year’s Six Nations but they will not be getting carried away by talk of making history.
Reigning champions Wales will enter the record books if they secure an unprecedented third successive title in this year’s tournament.
It is nice people are saying on the outside that Wales are favourites, but no-one is underestimating how tough it will be to win
Installed as favourites by the bookmakers, the team will kick off the championship when they host Italy at the Millennium Stadium this Saturday.
But Warburton, who signed a national contract with the Welsh Rugby Union last week, knows there will be no complacency from any members of his team.
“We always look forward to the Six Nations, it’s what you’re measured on,” said Warburton.
“This is my fifth championship now, and I love playing in them. We have a chance for three in a row and to create history.
“People will talk about the three in a row, but we just take it one game at a time. We are concentrating on Italy.
“It is nice people are saying on the outside that Wales are favourites, but no-one is underestimating how tough it will be to win the Six Nations again.”
