The Reds are currently in fourth place and a mere six points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal despite suffering back-to-back losses to Manchester City and Chelsea during the festive period.
It gives us a fantastic opportunity to stay in amongst it
Liverpool haven’t finished in the top four since 2009 when Rafael Benitez’s side narrowly missed out on the top-flight crown after being edged out by Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United.
However, Gerrard reckons Liverpool can end their absence from the Champions League if the Reds are able to put a consistent run of results together in the second half of the campaign.
“It seems to have been that way since the start of the season – teams are taking points off each other,” Gerrard told Sky Sports News.
“Teams in the middle of the Premier League are very strong now and the top sides aren’t having it all their way. The league is improving year by year.
“For us, it gives us a fantastic opportunity to stay in amongst it. If we find some consistency, we believe we can take one of these top-four places and that was our aim at the start of the season.”
