Arsenal transfers: Wenger has ‘no regrets’ over lack of signings
Arsenal transfers: Arsene Wenger insists that he has no regrets over his failure to bolster his squad last month
Arsene Wenger insists that he has no regrets over his failure to bolster his Arsenal squad in the January transfer window.
The Gunners were linked with a host of names last month, including highly-rated Schalke youngster Julian Draxler and Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
We have been very stable defensively until now and anyway we would not have bought defenders
Wenger brought in Sweden international Kim Kallstrom on loan from Spartak Moscow on deadline day – only for news to emerge that the midfielder will be out for at least a month with a back injury.
But the Frenchman declared that he has no regrets over his dealings last month, despite Arsenal’s 5-1 thrashing at Liverpool on Saturday raising questions about the Gunners’ squad.
“No [I have no regrets], because I don’t believe that on Saturday it was the players we missed in the transfer market who would have saved us,” said Wenger, whose side host Manchester United on Wednesday.
“We have been very stable defensively until now and anyway we would not have bought defenders, so I don’t think [after] any defeat you can come out with remarks like that.
“What you have to consider is how well we have done until now. We are in a fantastic position with this group of players, so let’s come back to our normal level.”
