The Blues boss made the surprising statement after watching his side become the first team to beat Manchester City at home in the league this season in Monday’s 1-0 win.

They [Chelsea] are in there. We do not listen too much to what people say

But with City and Chelsea level and just two points behind Wenger’s leaders, the Frenchman insists that the west Londoners cannot be ruled out of the race for the top-flight crown.

“They [Chelsea] are in there,” Wenger told a media conference. “It’s easy to move out if you don’t want [to be in the race]. I just think they are in there, of course.

“I think we [should] focus on our side, our results and do not listen too much to what people say. What is important is that we’re in a period where you turn up with good performances.”

Wenger, whose side travel to Liverpool on Saturday before hosting Manchester United next week, continued: “There is no invincible team, because there are so many quality teams in the Premier League and it’s just how close to your best you are every time that decides the results of the games.”

Speaking after his side’s win at Manchester City, Mourinho singled out Arsenal as the favourites to lift the Premier League trophy.

“Maybe Arsenal deserve it more than us,” said Mourinho. “They are top of the league and they are the favourites. We go behind them and play and watch.”
