The Reds defence will be attempting to bounce back from a shaky performance in a 1-1 draw with West Bromwich Albion last weekend after Kolo Toure’s mistake allowed Victor Anichebe to cancel out Daniel Sturridge’s opener.
Arsenal have good players with Olivier Giroud and other attacking threats
However, Liverpool manager Rodgers refused to criticise the experience 32-year-old defender, who previously won the Premier League title with Arsenal during a seven-year career in north London.
And the 41-year-old boss backed his defence to respond against the Premier League leaders, highlighting Giroud as one of Arsenal’s best players.
“I’ve always said to players that if they make honest mistakes I will always support them,” Rodgers told the ECHO.
“Any mistake Kolo made was an honest one. He’s an experienced player and knows it’s part and parcel of football.
“He has put it behind him and he has worked very hard this week. He has been really bright in training.
“Arsenal have good players with Olivier Giroud and other attacking threats. We will need to defend well but their defence will also have a big job on their hands containing us. We’re at home and we aim to give them more to worry about.”
