Chelsea 1 Everton 0: Win makes up for dropped points, claims Mourinho
Chelsea 1 Everton 0: Jose Mourinho says dramatic late win makes up for the disappointment of dropping points at West Brom
Jose Mourinho claimed that Chelsea’s dramatic late win over Everton made up for the disappointment of dropping points at West Brom earlier this month.
After a goalless first half in which the Toffees impressed at Stamford Bridge, John Terry got the vital touch on Frank Lampard’s free-kick in stoppage time to seal a win which keeps the Blues top of the Premier League table.
In the last part of the game we we more intense and more direct
Mourinho admitted his delight at the result, and said it went some way towards compensating the points Chelsea dropped when they were pegged back by West Brom at The Hawthorns.
“The feeling when you lose late points is bad,” Mourinho said. “When you win it’s the opposite. It’s a compensation of the points lost against West Brom. It’s the best time to score a goal.”
Mourinho continued: “It was a good game. They are a good team and the quality of their possession is very good. But my team was also defensively very strong and compact. We resolved every problem with a very good defensive performance.
“In the last part of the game we we more intense and more direct. When you score in the last minute, luck is a word that comes out but I think that the players never gave up and were always trying to win.
“For us it’s just a good feeling to be one more week in that position [at the top of the table] ahead of the next game against Fulham.”
