Crystal Palace 0 Man United 2: Wayne Rooney reveals he agreed his new contract a month ago after scoring in victory
Wayne Rooney revealed that his new Manchester United contract was all but agreed a month ago after his goal helped the Red Devils to victory at Crystal Palace.
After a goalless first half at Selhurst Park, Robin van Persie fired home a penalty after Marouane Chamakh brought down Patrice Evra in the box.

Rooney, who penned a new five-and-a-half year contract worth a reported £300,000-a-week on Friday, then added a second with a shot into the top corner in the 68th minute.
And the England international is now looking forward to focusing on helping United end the season with a positive run.
“It was important to sign the new deal,” Rooney told Sky Sports. “To be honest, it’s more or less been agreed for maybe a month now and it was just the fine details which needed finishing off.
“I wanted to get it done as quickly as possible and thankfully it’s done. Now I can concentrate on my football.
“I’ve let my football do the talking. I’m happy and settled. I’ve committed myself to the club and hopefully I can hope the club be successful.
“I’ve been at the club for 10 years now so it’s important we all stick together.”
Saturday’s win left United sixth and eight points behind fourth-placed Liverpool, who host Swansea on Sunday.
And Rooney admits that a top-four finish will be an uphill struggle with 11 games left to play.
“You never know,” he continued. “It will be difficult – we have to go on a good run now and we’re focused on doing that. We’ll get our heads down.
“We need to try and do as well as we can do and hopefully it will come. If not, we’ll move on to next year and we’ll be ready.”
