Emmanuel Adebayor paid tribute to Tim Sherwood after the striker’s two goals helped Tottenham reach the Europa League last 16 at the expense of FC Dnipro.
The Togo forward netted twice in the second half to help his side through to the next round and complete a dramatic comeback.
The new gaffer came in and gave me my confidence back and gave me a stage to play on
“Today I’m very glad being on the pitch again, scoring goals playing very well for my team,” said Adebayor. “I just have to keep focused, keep going and keep playing well.
“I want to say a big thank you to Tim. The new gaffer came in and gave me my confidence back and gave me a stage to play on. Everything is going onwards for me, for him, and the club.
“We just have to keep focused and keep going until the end of the season.”
Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, Spurs’ task became even more difficult when Dnipro’s Roman Zozulya headed in an away goal at White Hart Lane in the 47th minute.
The north Londoners were handed a lifeline when Christian Eriksen’s curled home a free-kick in the 56th minute.
And after Zozulya was sent off for a headbutt, Adebayor’s two close-range finishes saw Spurs through to the next knockout phase.
“We have quality up front and on the bench,” Adebayor continued. “We knew it would be very difficult because it was 1-0 but we kept our focus very well. The most important thing was to win through today and we’re very happy.”
