Everton transfers: Traore could return to Monaco, admits Martinez
Everton transfers: Roberto Martinez wants to keep Lacina Traore until the end of the season if the striker's injury isn't serious
Roberto Martinez has admitted Everton could be forced to end Lacina Traore’s loan if the Monaco striker is facing a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
The 6ft 8ins striker picked up a hamstring injury as he warmed up ahead of Everton’s 1-0 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
If it’s only a matter of three or four weeks, we want Lacina to be here until the end
Traore scored on his only Toffees appearance in a 3-1 victory over Swansea City in the FA Cup as he deputised for Romelu Lukaku.
And Martinez revealed that Everton are working with his parent club to ascertain the best method of treatment, which could determine his Everton future.
“It will depend on the length of time that he needs to recover,” Martinez said.
“We’re going to find out over the next couple of days what’s the treatment route that we’re going to go down. The relationship with Monaco is very good and you get to a point where you want the best for the player.
“We need to make sure he gets the right treatment and then depending how long that’s going to be. If it’s only a matter of three or four weeks, we want Lacina to be here until the end.
“If it’s going to be anything longer than two or three months, clearly the loan period is over. The only thing we are focusing on now is that Lacina gets the right treatment to perform in the manner that he showed against Swansea.”
