Jan Vertonghen believes Tottenham Hotspur must improve their home form if Spurs want to secure a top-four finish this season.

Tim Sherwood’s men are currently three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool ahead of their clash against rivals Everton in north London on Sunday.

The Lilywhites have the 11th-best home record in the Premier League, collecting a disappointing 18 points from a possible 36 at White Hart Lane.

And Vertonghen feels Spurs must improve their record at the Lane, starting with their clash against top-four chasing Everton.

“[We need to] win more home games I think,” Vertonghen said. “We tried to win [at Hull] and it didn’t work.

Vertonghen admitted that he is a fan of Roberto Martinez’s style of play as Spurs bid to move above fifth-placed Everton.

“They’re a very good team with very good players,” Vertonghen added.

“They impress me. They have a good manager. They’re a good team to watch.

“I like to watch Everton all the time because they play proper football.”
