Liverpool 5 Arsenal 1: Player ratings as the Reds run riot against the Gunners at Anfield

By Bilal Ahmad

Simon Mignolet After an early error of judgement, he was called upon very rarely in a game dominated by Liverpool. Made a good save in the second half. 7/10

Jon Flanagan Solid afternoon for the 21-year-old. Did not have any issues up against Cazorla. 7

Martin Skrtel Got Liverpool of a flying start with a brace of goals from set-pieces and the Slovakian was strong defensively when needed. 9

Kolo Toure Not troubled by Arsenal’s forward line and picked up a wonderful assist for the fifth goal. 8

Aly Cissokho Not called upon much defensively and assisted the home side’s attacks well down the left wing. 7

Steven Gerrard Fantastic effort from Liverpool’s skipper. Two assists and dictated play from deep and battled extremely well although an unnecessary penalty was given away. Replaced in the 76th minute. 8

Jordan Henderson Polished performance alongside Gerrard in midfield and passed very well. 7

Raheem Sterling (Man of the match) Two goals and an outstanding performance from the winger. Looked a threat every time he picked up the ball. 9

Philippe Coutinho Drifted into different positions in between Arsenal’s midfield and defence and was incisive with his creative play. 8

Luis Suarez Another magnificent outing for the Uruguayan and worked his socks off all afternoon. Unlucky not to get a goal. 8

Daniel Sturridge Fantastic finish for his goal. A constant danger for Arsenal’s defence until he came off after 66 minutes. 8

Joe Allen Brought on for Sturridge as Liverpool went for more men in midfield and did a good job linking Liverpool’s play. 6

Jordan Ibe Came on in the 76th minute for Gerrard and had a more than decent 14 minutes. 6

Iago Aspas An 86th-minute substitute for Suarez. Did not have any time to have an impact. 5

Wojciech Szczesny Couldn’t do much about the opening goals but maybe should have closed down Sturridge for the fourth goal. 5/10

Bacary Sagna Caught high up the pitch at times and contributed to Arsenal’s defensive nightmare. 5

Per Mertesacker Needlessly fouled Suarez. Toure’s assist came over the German’s head for the fifth goal. A very poor afternoon. 4

Laurent Koscielny Did not adjust quickly enough to the game and there was too much distance between himself and Skrtel for Liverpool’s second. Struggled like his defensive partner. 4

Nacho Monreal Did not offer much in an attacking or defensive sense. Replaced by Gibbs in the second half. 4

Jack Wilshere Not sharp enough on the ball. Tried to get involved in the midfield battle but was constantly outnumbered. 5

Mikel Arteta Passing was not accurate or penetrative and did not offer much protection to the defence. Scored a second half penalty after Oxlade-Chamberlain was fouled. 5

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain Started on the right side of Arsenal’s attack but did not see enough of the ball to make an impact. 5

Mesut Ozil Dispossessed for Sturridge’s goal and was rather absent for most of the game. Rightly brought off in the second half for Rosicky. 4

Santi Cazorla Gave possession away all too easily on many occasions. Not a good afternoon. 4

Olivier Giroud Not much service to the Frenchman and his lack of movement did not help the cause. 5

Kieran Gibbs Came on for Monreal in the second half. Did not offer much to the Gunners. 5

Tomas Rosicky Replaced Ozil but could not influence the game in the 30 minutes had on the pitch. 5

Lukas Podolski A 61st-minute substitute. Offered nothing offensively. 5
