Thomas Ince wasn’t ready to join Liverpool yet, according to the Crystal Palace forward’s father Paul.

The 22-year-old youngster sealed a move to east London outfit Palace from Blackpool during the January transfer window after being linked with a move to his former club Liverpool.

Maybe in two or three years’ time that might be a move for him

Ince won the Football League young player of the year award last season after scoring an impressive 19 goals in 33 Championship appearances this season.

But his father, who spent two seasons at Anfield during his decorated career, felt the England Under-21 international needs to progress before sealing a move to a big club in a couple of years.

“Liverpool were in but I don’t think Thomas is ready to go to Liverpool yet,” Ince told talkSPORT.

“Brendan [Rodgers] has done very well there and he does play the kids but for his progression as a footballer it needed to be a Stoke, a Swansea, a Palace or a Hull City at this point.

“Maybe in two or three years’ time that might be a move for him.”
