Sherwood gives latest Tottenham injury update ahead of Dnipro clash

Kyle Walker and Gylfi Sigurdsson will not be fit for Tottenham's clash with Dnipro at White Hart Lane on Thursday

Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood

Kyle Walker and Gylfi Sigurdsson will not be fit for Tottenham’s Europa League last-32 clash against Dnipro at White Hart Lane on Thursday, Tim Sherwood has confirmed.

Walker has been sidelined with a hip problem, while Sigurdsson has been out of action due to a thigh injury – and although the pair are well on their way back to full fitness, they will not feature in the second leg in north London.

Sherwood also confirmed that midfielder Sandro is back available for selection after suffering a calf injury against Liverpool in December.

“Kyle and Gylfi aren’t fit for this one, but they are on their way back. It won’t be long before they are fit,” said Sherwood.

“Younes [Kaboul] has a calf strain. We’re hopeful that he might be back in contention for the weekend [Cardiff on Sunday], but tomorrow is too soon for him.”

Sherwood also paid tribute to striker Jermain Defoe, with the forward having played his last game for the north London club.

“Jermain Defoe is possibly one of the best goal-scorers this club has ever seen. Let’s hope we can find another one like him because it is all about goals with Jermain,” said Sherwood.

“Whenever he put on the Tottenham shirt he gave his all. Everyone appreciates his efforts for this club.”
