Wenger gives latest Arsenal injury update after Sunderland win
Arsene Wenger plays down concerns about Laurent Koscielny, Nacho Monreal and Jack Wilshere after Arsenal beat Sunderland
Arsene Wenger moved to play down concerns surrounding Laurent Koscielny and Nacho Monreal’s fitness after both players were substituted in Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday.
Left-back Monreal was taken off and replaced by Carl Jenkinson at half-time, while Koscielny was substituted for Mathieu Flamini after netting the Gunners’ fourth goal at Emirates Stadium.
Mesut Ozil should also be available next week
Wenger said: “Koscielny has a back problem, Nacho has a foot problem because he was kicked on his foot. I think both should be available next week.”
The Arsenal manager, whose side remain second in the Premier League table and a point behind leaders Chelsea, also confirmed that Mesut Ozil did not feature due to a thigh strain.
“Yes [Ozil was injured], a thigh problem but it was a kick,” he continued. “He should also be available next week. He is in the dressing room at the moment.”
Asked about the fitness of midfielder Jack Wilshere, who played the full 90 minutes on Saturday, Wenger replied: “He had a tight hamstring, I don’t know if it is bad or not. They tell me it is not too bad.”
